Vindictive - Evaluation Task 6

What Have You Learnt About Technologies From The Process Of Constructing This Product?

Computer
When making our movie, we didn't use any specialist computers, but used standard ones as these do the job sufficiently and quickly. We used the computer to organise the many clips we had of our opening scene, and this was helpful as it allowed us to put all the shots in the right order in the final edit more of an easier job. The computer we used also allowed us to use the editing software without inconvenience .

Camera
The camera we used was suitable for our filming and final product as it was practical and filmed in a high definition, almost equal to the those that are used in a professional environment that cost thousands. It allowed us to film all kinds of shots from close-ups to establishing shots, and the frame rate was excellent for our fast paced moments such as the fight scene.

Tripod
The tripod we used was suited to our filming and the environment we were filming in as it could be extended to a tall height and shortened to a short height, all while maintaining a level balance for the camera to sit on. Its neck could also be adjusted to make a low-angle or high-angle shot. This made the tripod practical for all obstacles that needed to be overcome .

Editing Software
For our opening scene, we used two pieces of software - CyberLink PowerDirector and Adobe Premiere elements. We mainly used CyberLink PowerDirector for editing the majority of the opening, and was especially helpful for editing the fast-paced fight scene. It was simple and easy to use, while still giving a high quality, professional look to the final product. For the distribution credits, we used Adobe Premiere Elements to edit our animation of the chosen images. This is because this editing software was already installed on the computers we were using, making it convenient at the start to make one of the key aspects of the opening scene. It also allowed us to add nice effects that we wanted.

Vindictive - Evaluation Task 5

How Did You Attract/Address Your Audience?

In this version of the opening scene, we have annotated it to explain some key aspects of the opening scene. It shows the ways in which our film links to other action genres and how it attracts to the target audience we have focused on. The annotations also show genre conventions, the use of music, similarities with other movies and what we have identified as a unique selling point in our opening scene.

Vindictive - Evaluation Task 4

Vindictive - Who Would Be The Audience For Your Media Product

The target audience for Vindictive is primarily focused on teenagers and adults. This is because they will be able to keep up with the excitement of the film, and the opening scene shows this, and this type of audience are generally into these genre of films.

The targeted gender of our opening scene is primarily focused on males, whereas females would enjoy it as well.

The target audience would likely shop occasionally in places that sell electricals, games and movies, so this would be a good place for them to get a movie such as Vindictive. This is because the target audience is focused on teenagers and young adults and so this where they would typically shop. This relates to them because it shows that these people are very modern and the movie is a modern one, and not set anytime in the past.

The music the target audience would also listen to modern music, and so the opening scene incorporates modern action music that ties in with the story of the scene. This will make the audience relate to the scene more likely and so will improve the popularity of the film.

The target audience are likely to watch television shows that are similar to movies they are interested in, the action genre being one of them. As they are likely to watch television everyday, the action genre would have a big impact on their genre preferences, making them more likely to watch action genre more than any other genre.

Vindictive - Evaluation Task 2

Vindictive - How Does your Media Product Represent Particular Social Groups?

In these screen shots, we have the main protagonist from Vindictive compared with two characters from other action movies; Jason Bourne from the Bourne action movie series and Royce from the action movie Predators.

From these images, we can see the characters are quite similar as they are not very muscular, as seen with some action heroes such as Rambo, but still show an element of fighting skill and strength, and also makes them look a little more intelligent and tactical. What is also similar about these characters is their clothing, as they are wearing casual, inconspicuous clothing. This means they would not stand out in public. It also suggests they are capable of completing their missions without drawing attention to themselves.

They also share a similar expression and personality and it shows they take their missions seriously. This is conventional of an action hero as they are not typically looked at as people who have fun and take things casually. This expresses to the audience that the mission is a long and difficult one that must not be taken lightly.

Vindictive - Evaluation Task 3

Vindictive - What Kind Of Media Institution Might Distribute Your Media Product And Why?

In our final product, we created two production company names, CWP Films and Blue Horse Films. We came up with CWP Films by using the first letter of all of our surnames and put them together; Cottee Whitbread Powell Films. We also used a background that stood out and would grab the audiences attention with its scenery and colours, and then edited CWP Films in the foreground for the distribution credit. Another production company we created was Blue Horse Films, which we came up with when using the images that we were working with to create a production company. In the edit we turned a horse black and white to be used at the start and then made it flash into a strong blue colour, while glowing at the same time, giving a nice effect on the distribution credit. The film would have a massive contribution from both CWP Films and Blue Horse Films, and so the use of synergy would enhance the films progress.  This means that one comapny would focus on the Sound and editing, while the other would focus on the story and the filming of the movie.

Vindictive - Evaluation Task 1

Vindictive - In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop Or Challenge Forms And Conventions Of Real Media Products?

The Title Of The Film

The title of the film, Vindictive, is shown at the climax of the opening scene, making it stand out and emphasises the intensity of the film, a key factor of an action movie. It suggests to the audience that "Vindictive"is the main topic of the film and leaves an enigma of why someone might want to take revenge on something; the short definition of Vindictive.

Setting/Location
We filmed at an old house, which is a suitable and realistic setting for a murder, and we also filmed at a river with a bridge across it as this is a typical fight location, as it gives the impression to the audience that there is nowhere to run and that a fight will have to decide the fate of the characters, a typical cliche for an action movie fight scene.

Costumes And Props
The costumes we used were stereotypical to what young males wear. This conforms to action movies as the protagonists are usually seen as casual looking people, but are ready at any time to complete a task, no matter how difficult it is. It also allows the audience to relate to the main characters, making them feel more a part of the movie.
Camerawork And Editing
The film uses a variety of camera shots and angles, giving different effects and engaging the audience in the action of the film. The shot featured above is a medium-long shot which captures the action of the narrative and the audience can see the villain being chased by the protagonist. This would engage the audience in the dramatic action sequence and it also shows the setting of a suburban neighborhood, which is a recognisable setting that the audience would relate to.
Font And Style
The titles of the actors names fade in and out underneath the relevant actor. This causes the audience to understand which character is played by the relevant actor. This is conventional of film openings and allows the audience to further engage with the film. These shots is also effective because it is a close-up shot of the actors faces.
Story And How The Opening Sets It Up
The opening is conventional to an action movie as it shows a scene that will give the audience a general idea of what the movie is going to be about. It also leaves an enigma to the audience, asking questions such as: why is there a man dead? who killed him? how is the runner related to the scene and the rest of the movie? is there something bigger than initially thought behind this?
Genre And How The Opening Suggests It
The opening scene shows it is an action genre as it starts with a quick, tense scene, a typical convention of an action movie. With a chase and fight scene in the first two minutes, it conforms to action films as they tend to do this to excite the audience already, getting them ready for the film.
How Characters Are Introduced
The first shot is a shot of the two main protagonists who get a call to a homicide. This is conventional of an action film as action films usually start off with a death, giving them a motive to catch the culprit, which leads to a long journey with many obstacles and twists and turns on the way. From this scene we can see that it is their job to do these dangerous missions, and shows their professionalism and skill that they are capable of doing it.
Special Effects
In the opening scene, special effects were used to enhance the action of the movie. It was used to emphasise the fight scene, with realistic, powerful punch and kick noises. it also used relevant background music that suited the scenes before the chase, and there was also relevant music in the background of the chase and fight scene, with parts of the music directly linking to the shot the scene showed
